Oh yeah? You’re into Taekwondo right? Those kicks look impressive.
I was visiting a friend’s boxing gym recently, and the instructor there was telling me how boxing is the most effective and most powerful martial art. I was like, dude, have you ever been kicked? Lol
There’s always some bias when you’re talking to an instructor, but don’t let that dissuade you from boxing. It’s a tremendous martial art in terms of footwork, movement, and defensive fighting. I can’t recommend it more for people coming from traditional arts like TKD, Shotokan, and Kyokushin. I speak from experience when I say boxing will 100% change your game for the better.
I’m joining boxing- wasn’t even talking about boxing. :) Was talking about biased gyms and instructors in general that lack the proper attitude and mental aspects of a martial artist that is just as important as everything else. I don’t think he’d mention a dislike for biased attitudes yet have one against boxing.
Agree. We actually have a boxing coach come in every Saturday now to help us learn the basics. The head movement in particular is very excellent and something valuable to learn.
The distance is a change, since karate fighters stand further away and then blitz in. But I agree, it’s a sweet science.

somtimes you get ignorant people that really just dont get it . Alot of time people watch tv and see mma or boxing or whatever and they make opinions of things they dont understand . I respect mma and boxing all styles of martial arts but what cant stand is the people who see olympic taekwondo make comments on somthing that they dont do and want to compare there art to taekwondo. For example there is some one that always makes this comment why in olympic taekwondo they dont punch to the face . For one thing sport taekwondo is all about kicking so points are scored by powerful kicking techniques and we wear small gloves to protect our hands so there is no punching to the face the only scoring area for punching is to the body . Or the statement i hear alot i would just take the guy down and end the match its like hello idiot this is a tkd match there is no take downs thats like saying well if i was in a boxing match I would just kick the guy and end the match that wouldent make sense its boxing . or if i was in a judo match i would just punch the guy and end it in certain martial arts that have tournaments want to see certain techniques used olympic taekwondo its kicks for bjj its joint locks and chokes for boxing its hands . And I think the most ignorant comment of all is that taekwondo is just a sport if you just watch olympic tkd there are rules and regulations so yes tournaments are just that a combative sport . News flash people any time you put rules and regulations into somthing combative it turns into a sport . rules like no biting , no groin shots ,no hitting to the back of the head , no hitting a down opponent etc etc . all martial arts have reality applications . taekwondo , karate, bjj , karate, muay thai , wing chun , savate, kung fu, mma etc etc all great martial arts systems also great combative sports when you put rules and regulations into them. So all im saying is we cant compare apples and oranges we have to show respect for all and stop with the ignorance

2/28/14 It’s Friday!
I woke up real late this morning. My entire body hurts from the double session I had this session. So I made something super quick (and not good for me) for breakfast. I had some bagels with cream cheese and milk.

I quickly did some shadow boxing and work on practicing my forms of certain punches and kicks. I had to really rush to get work today because I accidentally slept an extra two hours this morning.
Work was fairly busy in the morning. I managed to finish all paper work for the week and sat for the rest of the day. My body started aching. I may have accidentally over worked myself again.
I ate lunch really late with my co-worker. I had my leftover pasta and some chicken and an apple.

Work was such a slog today and my body was in considerable pain from going over time and practicing techniques this morning. I couldn’t wait to visit my brother. I am spending the weekend with him!
But of course, I got stuck in traffic for almost two hours. Ugh, the ride was just so long. I finally arrived and my sister-in-law fed me salad, some pasta with ground beef and tomatoe sauce, and garlic bread. Later, I had some ice cream. I am clearly have started my cheat day haha.
I am excited for tomorrow. My brother and I are going to H-Mart to do some shopping, then we are gonna do some cooking, and eat all the Asian foods! I am really excited! Hooray for cheat days!
I went to a muay thai/boxing class this morning with a new instructor. And let me tell you. He is the Rocky Balboa to my Adonis Creed.
He’s got that classic older-boxer look about him. He even gave me sage, vague life advice about “never giving up” while he wrapped my hands. And oh man, best wrap job I’ve ever gotten. I’d go back for that alone.
Unfortunately he kept calling me Kristen (not my name, not even close) but ya know what, if he’ll let me call him Rocky, I’ll let him call me Kristen.
I swear your martial arts life is a TV show/graphic novel. :)
Looks like it’s Kristen from here on out :D
Sounds like you found a right gem!
I’m 100% okay with being called Kristen from here on out.
